We’re looking for an artist to paint a mural on the Elsie S. Hogan Community Library!
Location & Description of Art
The City of Willcox is pleased to announce, as part of the City’s effort to better incorporate art into the Community, that we are looking for proposals from artists to paint a mural on the Elsie S. Hogan Community Library’s wall that faces Maley Street.
The image below is a rough approximation to help give a visual of the space. The wall is 65.25 ft in length by 22 ft in height in the center and 11 ft at the shortest point on each side. The windows are 47” in length and 47.5” in height and are located 37.5” up from the bottom of the wall. The distance of the windows from the respective ends of the wall are detailed in the picture besides. The surface of the wall is stucco. These measurements are likely not exact. Interested artists should visit the site and conduct their own measurements. Please inform library staff before doing this.
Concept
The mural is intended to feature the theme: Imagine, Create, and Achieve.
The Arts Commission will select the most competitive proposal.
The City may be looking to create additional murals in the future and will keep all RFPs for future consideration.
Eligibility
All artists are invited to participate.
How do I apply?
Artists should submit the completed application to Robert Wisler with attached bid for completion and other requested items. You may submit by either by e-mail (rwisler@willcox.az.gov) or print the completed form and turn it in to Robert Wisler at City Hall (101 S. Railroad Avenue, Willcox, AZ).
Standards
In preparation for installation, the Library wall will be primed with light, neutral colored paint. The top portion of the building is thought to be corrugated metal and bottom is stucco. The work will be expected to be done with high quality paint and must withstand the Southern Arizona elements (i.e. wind, sun),
As public art on a public building, the City of Willcox reserves the right to remove the mural as needed, especially due to reasons such as vandalism, repairs to building, and more.
Use of any equipment (including but not limited to ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and more) is at the risk of the artist and the City of Willcox and Willcox Arts Commission will not be held responsible for any damages.
Bid, Payment
Bids for the cost of completion of this project shall be submitted with this application. The awarded applicant will have half of their expenses paid for up front, the other half upon completion.
