We are excited to announce that construction of our new pool and spray park has begun. Like you, we are eager to see it completed and believe it will be a wonderful amenity that will improve the quality of life for our residents.
What funds are being used to pay for the Pool and Spray Park:
In 2021, the City applied for a $2,650,000 matching grant with the Arizona State Parks to build a new pool and spray park, update city park irrigation systems, update fencing around ballfields, build an event center, install new playground equipment, upgrade ball field lighting to LED as well as other park improvements. To match the funds the city solicited donations, sponsorships, applied for grants and took out a $1,500,000 loan. We are grateful for the $92,000 in donations we have received for a new slide thus far! Unfortunately, significant cost increases for materials and construction have continued to occur from when the city first applied for funding. This has led to aspects of the grant being cut or reduced.
What aspects of the grant were reduced:
New smart irrigation systems were completely removed and staff was able to temporarily fix parts of the irrigation system until additional funds are identified. The budget for outdoor workout equipment was reduced, but the city was able to receive equipment donations from Arizona State Parks. For the event center reduced aspects included a community meeting room and restroom facilities. Aspects of the pool and spray park reduced include agriculture themed spray park equipment water windmill ($119,115), trickle tractor ($57,486) and a cow ($75,000), decrease in amount of concrete decking ($100,000), shade structures ($335,000), landscaping ($106,000), size of slide by ($200,000), additional pool lane ($100,000), and heating.
How much money is needed to complete the project:
Current estimates range between $500,000 and $1,000,000 depending when the city receives additional grant dollars and sponsorships and the existing price for materials and construction.
